27. Sierra Nevada

The Sierra Nevada mountains presented emigrants with their last challenge on completing the journey to California. These high mountains made for difficult paths for wagons to follow, requiring many teams of animals to pull the wagons (either intact or disassembled) over the rocky crest. As a result, there are many different paths which were used in efforts to find more tolerable routes.
